about

close your eyes...

Picture where you were the first time that you heard that really, really great song... the first one that comes to mind - the song with the jangling guitars, pounding drums, thumping bass, moaning organ, thick vocal harmonies, and the lyrics that spoke directly to you. The one that changed your life. The song, that every time you hear it, takes you back to a memory, a feeling, a love, a loss, an amazing moment in time...

Open your eyes and fast forward five, ten, fifteen or maybe even thirty years (or more).... the Brother Bicker Band is trying to recapture that memory, that feeling, that love, that loss and that amazing moment in time with every song that they play, original or cover.

Featuring Taylor Miles on drums, Jim Duncan on bass, Jeremy Hrdlicka on vocals and acoustic guitar, Tom Mogan on guitar and vocals, Ben Ellard on keys and Jennele Coulson and Claire Wilkes on vocals, these seven friends and band mates bring a unique and refreshing take on the "roots" rock genre, best described as "maple whiskey rock n roll" - well-aged and a little bit harsh, it may burn a little at first. It has a touch of sweetness and is uniquely Canadian. And like whiskey, the more you indulge, the more fun you have and the better you feel....and if you have too much you just may forget everything.

With their latest album, Another Kind of Train, The Brother Bicker Band is serving up a shot of “maple whiskey rock n roll".

The Brother Bicker Band is country rock, Canadian style. The seven-member group of roots rockers recently signed with independent music company, Spectra Music Group, out of New York, USA for the release of their new album in May 2, 2025. The band’s self-described sound of ‘Maple Whiskey Rock n Roll’, ever present on this release, is the lovechild of Southern Rock, blues and country with a cold shot of the Great White North.

This album has been years in the making. The initial set of ten songs were recorded with Christian Stonehouse of House of Stone Productions at OCL Studios outside of Calgary. The songs are the culmination of over five years of live shows (as well, a couple of years of global pandemic). The final two songs, Take My Gun and the Whiskey Myers cover, Stone, were recorded by Edmonton producer, Kurtis Schultz, at Blue Willow Studios.

Guest artists include award winning steel guitarist and banjo player, Mitch Jay, keyboardist, Brendan Waters and drummers and friends of the band, Darryl Swart and Matt Dawe. The cover of Stone also features a collaboration and full choral support from the iconic Calgary vocal ensemble, REVV52 and its artistic director, John Morgan.

Press

Brother Bicker Unplugged today was mind-blowingly good. Hanging out for a Sunday afternoon in the foothills with these great Alberta musicians. Fantastic sound production in a wonderful, intimate historical venue. Good snacks and beer too!” - Patron at the Stop Coffee House and Gathering Place, October 2025
Fresh off their album ‘Another Kind of Train’, out now, and following multiple 2025 Calgary Music Award nominations, the band lean into what they do best here, tight musicianship, shared vocals, and a sound that sits comfortably between country, blues, and roots rock.” - Eric Alper
One song in particular stuck out for me.... it spoke to me in a way that I have never had a song speak to me in some ways and that is Harder Heart. I've listened to it over and over again..” - Chris Brown, Cross Border Interview Podcast
The Brother Bicker Band’s Another Kind of Train is the perfect mixture of sweet country music and the bluesy tunes of rock ‘n roll. The album is a classic take on love and its troubles, the melodies and lyrics creating a beautiful body of work. Each song features similar musical elements but is still unique and indulgent to listen to. The Brother Bicker Band has said they are “trying to recapture that memory, that feeling, that love, that loss and that amazing moment in time with every song” and they do just that. Their album creates a sense of nostalgia in listeners that opens their heart and creates a sensational experience. ” - Kyla Hutchinson

Indie Pulse Music (April 17, 2025)

As a train ride can take you to the highest mountains, the lowest valleys, the most vibrant locations, and the darkest of tunnels, Brother Bicker Band’s Another Kind of Train touches just about every aspect of life and its complexities throughout uniquely crafted tracks. Each piece brings forth its own emotion, its own style, and its own impact on the listener, creating a potent message that captures the heart of the listeners.” - Sam Mujica

Nashville Music Guide (April 25, 2025)

It's just one of the influences that shines through on Another Kind of Train, which finds the band's two main songwriters mining a similar soulful country and rock territory similar to the Black Crowes and Tom Petty and the twangier/bluesier moments of Bruce Springsteen” - Eric Volmers

Calgary Herald

As I explored my music library and new albums I wanted to try, I landed on 'Another Kind of Train' by the Brother Bicker Band, and it was exactly what I needed.” - Roxie Jenkin

Chicago News Journal

There are a few places where songs – and singers – stand out, the most prominent of which being Jennele Coulson on “Take My Gun”, the album’s tenth song. The song offers a distinct Femme Fatale vibe, with Coulson’s deep, resonant vocals sending chills down your spine as the song tells the story of “the emotional weight of past choices and the longing for a fresh start"” - Madeline A. S. Kilness

New York Examiner News

This album has everything, from exciting and high-energy sing-alongs to slower songs perfect for a good cry. Listeners of all kinds should be keeping an eye on Brother Bicker Band.” - Gracey Downer
